- [eMarketer] Amazon has a larger advertising business than YouTube, Article by Zak Stambor, 2022.2.4
Amazon’s ad business generated more annual revenues than the company’s physical stores ($17.08 billion) and roughly the same amount as Amazon Prime and its other subscription services ($31.77 billion). Amazon announced last week that it is increasing the cost of Prime to $139.
The business is larger than YouTube’s ad business, which grew 46% to $28.85 billion last year, per a filing from parent company Alphabet.
- [eMarketer] Apple ad revenues skyrocket amid its AppTrackingTransparency privacy changes, Article by Nina Goetzen, 2022.1.31
Apple is benefiting from its AppTrackingTransparency privacy changes last year, even as publishers and advertisers struggle with it.
Apple’s services business, which includes advertising and subscription revenues, grew 24% year over year last quarter to a record $19.5 billion, according to its earnings report released last week
Overall, company revenues rose 11% to $123.9 billion.
It’s likely that a large share of this category’s growth comes from advertising—more specifically, App Store search ads.Though Apple doesn’t break out its advertising revenues, many of the other things included in its services business—like subscriptions to media platforms and cloud services—didn’t grow nearly as much as the 24% reported for the entire segment. US Apple Music listeners increased 5.2% last year, while Apple TV users rose 4.0%, per our estimates.
- [eMarketer] Marketers increasingly turn to TikTok for influencer marketing, Article by Sara Lebow, 2022.1.19
In 2020, 36.0% of US marketers used TikTok for influencer marketing, a 33% growth from the prior year. That number rose slightly to 42.0% in 2021 and will continue to rise to the end of our forecast in 2025, as TikTok continues to close the gap with Facebook for influencer marketing use.
Only Instagram and Facebook beat out TikTok's popularity among influencer marketers. More marketers plan to use TikTok than YouTube, Twitter, or Snapchat in 2022.
